The brief

Style a pre-wedding party so it felt as grand and memorable as a full reception, around an Italian-inspired theme, with a day-to-night flow across a single hotel space, and give a family's in-memory tree the prominence it deserved.

The outcome

The room was transformed beyond the couple's expectations. The in-memory tree became the event's focal point and moved many guests to tears, and even the hotel's own staff were taken aback by how different the space looked.

A pre-wedding party rarely gets the design attention a reception does. This one did. The brief was to make a hotel function space feel as considered and as grand as the wedding that would follow, built around an Italian-inspired theme, and to do it while carrying something far more personal at its centre.

What did the styling involve?

The scheme leaned into a relaxed Italian richness: abundant foliage, vibrant lemons and elegant candlelight running through the space to build atmosphere rather than decorate the edges of it. Rather than one uniform layout, the room was designed as two moods in one: a relaxed, casual seating area on one side and long, elegant tables on the other, so the evening could move naturally from day to night without ever needing to reset the space.

“They curated a beautiful Italian-inspired theme, with stunning foliage, vibrant lemons, and elegant candles that created the most incredible atmosphere throughout the space. We loved how they executed our day-to-night concept.”

What made this event different?

The most important element in the room wasn’t decorative. The couple wanted an in-memory tree honouring family who couldn’t be there, and Upesh treated it as the anchor of the whole design rather than a detail to place at the side. Styled and positioned as the room’s focal point, it became the piece guests stopped at.

“Upesh truly understood how important this was to both me and my husband, and he made it the central feature of the event. The way it was styled and positioned meant it became a real focal point, it took our guests’ breath away and even brought many of them to tears.”

How did the process work?

The client singled out straight-talking honesty as the thing they valued most: if something wouldn’t work, they were told, early, rather than discovering it on the day. That candour ran alongside constant availability and regular check-ins through the planning period.

“Upesh was fantastic to work with, straight-talking and honest throughout the process. If he felt something wouldn’t work, he told us, which we really valued.”

The result was a transformation the venue’s own team didn’t expect. If you’re planning a pre-wedding celebration and want it to feel like a headline event in its own right, request a consultation, or read more about our themed event styling and floral design.
