The brief

Design the décor for a mendhi function that was genuinely colourful, as the occasion calls for, while staying elegant rather than tipping into busy. Planned in partnership with the client across a year of preparation.

The outcome

The client's brief was met without compromise on either side of it, capping a year-long working relationship they described as a pleasure from start to finish.

Mendhi décor has a particular design tension in it. The occasion invites saturated colour, pattern and energy, but push too far and a room reads as chaotic rather than considered. This client asked for both halves at once: colourful and elegant. Holding those together is the whole job.

What was the brief?

Colour, unapologetically, but disciplined. That means choosing a palette and committing to it rather than layering every available hue, letting a few strong tones carry the room, and using restraint in the negative space so the colour that is there actually reads.

“I wanted something colourful and also elegant.”

Why does a year of planning matter?

This wasn’t a booking placed and forgotten. Client and team worked together across roughly a year in the run-up to the event. That long runway is what makes a scheme like this land: it leaves room for the design to evolve with the rest of the wedding programme, for fabrics and florals to be chosen deliberately rather than from what’s available at short notice, and for the client to change their mind while changing it is still cheap.

“It has been a pleasure working together for the past year for the event and I couldn’t have asked for more!”

Who ran the project?

Rakesh led the décor delivery, and the client’s thanks went to him and the wider team by name: a recurring theme across our reviews, and a deliberate feature of how we work: the people who design your event are the people who install it.
