Cultural & Religious Event Styling

Cultural and religious event styling is the design of a celebration that has to honour its traditions and still feel elevated. It means understanding what an occasion requires before deciding how it should look, the orientation of a ceremony, the space an officiant needs, the processional route, the moment the room falls quiet, and then building the decorative and technical scheme around those fixed points. In practice it draws on venue draping and bespoke structures, colour palettes with meaning rather than fashion behind them, floral design, ceremonial staging, lighting that shifts with the ritual, and sound clear enough for prayer, speech and music alike. Avari Events has styled Diwali festivities, Chinese New Year events, Bar Mitzvahs, Christmas celebrations and Asian wedding ceremonies since 2009, designing, manufacturing and crewing each one in-house so the tradition is treated with care and the room still takes your guests’ breath away.

What does cultural event styling involve?

It starts with a conversation about the occasion itself: what must happen, in what order, and what each element means. Only then does the design begin: a colour palette and concept, CAD plans of the room and ceremonial area, venue draping, a stage or backdrop, floral design and table styling, followed by the lighting and sound that carry the ceremony.

Getting the sequence right is the whole point. Décor chosen before the ritual is understood is decoration; décor chosen afterwards is design.

Which celebrations do you produce?

Diwali dinners and community festivals, Chinese New Year celebrations, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Eid gatherings, Christmas parties, Asian wedding ceremonies and receptions, and civic or community events that mark a shared occasion.

Each has a different visual language, and we research it rather than reaching for a generic scheme. Themed event styling at Avari means the detail is specific enough that guests recognise their own traditions in the room.

Do you provide mandaps and ceremonial structures?

Yes. Our mandap collection ranges from hand-carved traditional frames and gold jali detailing to contemporary draped designs, and our workshop builds entirely bespoke structures where a ceremony calls for something specific.

Because the manufacturing team is in-house, proportions, materials and finishes are made to the requirement rather than adapted from something that already exists.

How do lighting and sound support a ceremony?

Lighting carries the emotional arc: warm and still for the ceremony, then uplighting, moving heads and haze as the celebration opens up. Sound has to serve very different content: an officiant’s voice, recorded prayer, speeches and live music, each needing different microphones and different levels.

Our audio visual team specifies and operates both, with LED screens for readings, translations, montages or live camera relay to overflow spaces.

Can you work with our community venue or place of worship?

We regularly install in community halls, temples, banqueting suites, hotels and marquees across London, and we carry out a site visit and produce plans before build day so access, timings, fire regulations and any venue restrictions are settled in advance.
