The Great Barn Wedding Styling & Packages

The Great Barn at Headstone Manor on Pinner View is one of Harrow’s most characterful settings, and one of the few historic timber-framed barns in London that hosts weddings. It seats up to 200 guests within a beautifully restored aisled structure: 120 feet long and 32 feet wide across seven bays, with a clear span of 17 feet and aisles of 15 feet on either side, oak posts originating from Ruislip Woods, historic joinery, weather-boarded walls and ends, and a refurbished stone floor. It is also, for us, the shortest journey we make: our workshop sits in the same borough, minutes away on Waverly Industrial Estate. That proximity means we can meet the tightest access window the venue offers and be back within the hour if a detail needs changing, and it means we can walk the barn with you at short notice, before anything is committed.

How do you style a historic barn without covering it?

By treating the building as the décor and everything else as support. A restored aisled barn has already given you a spectacular ceiling, and the common mistake is to drape over it. We do the opposite: uplight the oak posts and truss bays in a warm tone so the frame reads as sculpture, then keep everything at guest level low, soft and candlelit.

Nothing is fixed into the timber. Drape, where it is used at all, hangs from our own freestanding frames, and florals are engineered to stand on their own bases.

How should the long, narrow proportions be used?

Deliberately. A 120ft barn is a corridor if you plan it as one, and a procession if you plan it well. We usually set a single strong focal build at one gable end, run the dining along the clear span, and use the 15ft side aisles as separate territory: a drinks reception, a lounge, a grazing or dessert display, or a run of floral moments that pull guests down the length of the room instead of leaving them bunched by the door.

Which styling packages work at The Great Barn?

All three of our venue packages apply here, priced inclusive of VAT and independent of guest numbers.

• Reception Package: £1,000. A 20ft 3D backdrop with white base, coloured curtains, hanging crystals and uplights; table centres; LED uplighting throughout.
• Civil Ceremony & Reception: £1,850. White aisle carpet, civil backdrop, pew-end floral arrangements, head table backdrop, table centres and LED uplighting.
• Asian Wedding & Reception: £4,500. A 20ft x 12ft x 1ft stage, white carpet for stage and aisle, a four-pillar premium mandap, foyer display, head table backdrop, table centres and LED uplighting.

In a barn of this character we would usually recommend adjusting the standard backdrop scale and finish so the build sits comfortably against historic timber rather than competing with it. We will talk that through before quoting.

What about the stone floor and the weather?

The refurbished stone floor is protected under anything heavy, and every base we use is weighted rather than fixed. Barn weddings also run warmer and colder than guests expect, so we plan the lighting and layout with the season in mind and coordinate any heating with the venue’s own team.
