What does sporting event production involve?

Sound, vision, lighting, streaming and coordination, specified after a site visit rather than from a standard package. An indoor hall, an outdoor pitch and an arena each present different problems, reverberation, daylight, power distribution, weather, and each changes the specification.

We plan camera positions, screen placement, speaker coverage and cable routes around the field of play so nothing sits in a sightline or a run-off area.

What audio does a sports venue need?

Coverage and intelligibility. Announcements, commentary and walk-on music must be clear at the far end of a hard-surfaced hall or across an open field, which means a line array system in larger spaces and point source in smaller ones, plus wireless handheld and headset microphones for announcers and presenters.

How do big screens change a sporting event?

Play needs even, glare-free light of a standard cameras can work with. Around that, event lighting creates the theatre: moving heads and beam effects for entrances, haze to give the beams shape, and colour states for finals and presentations that lift a sports hall out of its everyday character.
